Glued vs sewn leather patches

Every patch we make is heat-bonded to the hat on a two-platen press. A sewn patch gets an edge stitch on top of that for $1 more per hat. Glued is the default and holds up to normal wear; sewn is for hats that get washed or worked hard.

How each is attached

Glued

The engraved patch is positioned on the hat and bonded with our own heat process on a two-platen VEVOR hat press. The bond is under the whole patch, not just the edges. The hat front stays clean with no stitch line.

Sewn

Same bond first, then an edge stitch around the patch on one of our commercial embroidery machines. The stitch is in a thread color you choose. It takes the same 28-day turnaround.

Our take

If you are not sure, the $1 is cheap insurance on a hat that costs $20. If the look matters more than the abuse it will take, go glued. Either way, if a patch fails because of our work, Battle Born Clothing redoes it free.

Questions

Does a sewn patch still get glued?

Yes. Every patch is heat-bonded first; sewn adds the edge stitch.

Can I choose the stitch color?

Yes. Match the leather, match the hat, or contrast. The proof shows it.

Can you sew patches on hats I already own?

Yes. Decoration rate plus $1 sewing plus $2 per item handling.
